Kingston Business School research

Amanda Rosewarne has now completed her extensive research into three key questions prompted by Statius's interest in the works of Dr W Edwards Deming, the late management thinker.  The three key questions of interest were:

  1. What evidence is there of a link between organisational performance and the knowledge of leaders, at all levels in an organsation, of the work they supervise?
  2. What evidence is there of a link between tenure with an organisation and organisational performance?
  3. What evidence is there for a "best" psychological contract between organisations and their employees with respect to high organisational performance?

As might be imagined, each of the above questions is likely to have quite a significant impact on both organisational policy and practices.

As with most research, the answer to each of the questions is "it depends"!  In each of the above questions, a multitude of variables arises each of which influence the eventual outcome - some significantly so.

However, all is not lost.  The research has highlighted a number of issues, best practices and models that are of real practical use.  For instance, working relationships and communications, remote decision-making, people and performance models, models for employee engagement and organisational citizenship, and a working model, proposed by Prof David Guest, of the expected reciprocal behaviours from the individual and organisation for the best psychological contract.

If you are interested in either the summary of the findings or, indeed, in the full report, both are available from the download centre.
