Raising standards - ISO 9001:2008

A new edition of ISO 9001 is in the final throws of being introduced.  This is the fourth edition of the standard which originally replaced the forerunning British Standard, BS5750, in 1987.

The previous change in 2000 was a major and radical change.  By comparison, the 2008 version represents a minor change and, as such, is being published as an amendment, rather than a revision, to the standard.  The changes are, however, intended to improve further compatibility with sister standards such as the environmental and health and safety standards ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
